Bringing together open source communities to create a pop-up village around FOSDEM.
Join us in 2027 →From 26 January to 6 February 2026 the Commons Hub Brussels became the Open Source Village: three floors of coworking, meeting rooms, an open space for workshops, and a living room that stayed busy from breakfast until well after the evening meetup.
The village was built around FOSDEM rather than against it. In the days before and after the conference weekend, each day took on a theme — funding open source, open source sovereignty, the open source economy, tools for communities, open source AI — and the evenings belonged to community meetups hosted by our sponsors and partners.
It was invitation only on purpose. Applications were reviewed by the core contributors so the room stayed diverse and everyone had a real chance to meet each other, and sponsors could bring people from their own communities.
There is no village without kids, so 2026 also hosted the launch of the open source kids community in Belgium, with a kids open booth running throughout.
Daily activities, workshops, and community gatherings
A cosy living room and coworking floor with great coffee, snacks and high-speed internet.
A mix of open space for workshops, talks and discussions, alongside pre-organised sessions.
Happy hours, community meetups and dinners to build connections beyond the hallway track.
